Saicom Voice Services is one of the largest Least Cost Routing (LCR) providers in South Africa. Saicom Voice Services offers a Managed Least Cost Routing Service for its clients. The Saicom technology is much more sophisticated than your standard “premicell” device. This allows Saicom Voice Services to achieve enormous economies of scale across its entire client base and to pass on the saving benefits to its clients. Saicom Voice Services has built a sophisticated platform utilising dialling Gateways, Sim Servers and Sim Arrays, together with its own billing and monitoring systems. The Sim Server is the brains of the system. It is programmed by Saicom to understand cellular package price plans, in-bundle and out-of-bundle minutes, off-net and on-network calling, number portability, peak and off-peak calling etc. This intelligence is passed onto the dialling Gateway where the call is generated at the client’s premises. Saicom has banks of sim cards that are housed centrally in its server rooms. Each time a client calls out, our Gateway communicates with our Sim Server and Sim Arrays through standard IP signalling using either a diginet or dedicated ADSL line, utilising negligible bandwidth. The Sim Server assesses the number to be dialled, calculates the cheapest method of routing the call and signals back to the Gateway how to place the call and what “virtual sim number” to utilise. What is unique about the system, is that no sim cards reside at the client, all sim cards are hosted centrally in the Saicom Sim Arrays.
